FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Still unsure? Text a short description and Dr. Gildin will let you know whether a visit makes sense.
Can my child’s laceration be repaired at home?
Often, yes. Many cuts in children can be cleaned and closed at home with sutures, staples, or tissue adhesive. Dr. Gildin reviews each injury first, and a parent or legal guardian provides consent and must be present for the visit for any patient under 18. Some injuries are better treated in a hospital, and if that’s the case for your child, he’ll tell you right away.
How do I know whether stitches are needed?
Some common signs that a cut may need closure:
- The edges gape open or don’t come together on their own.
- The cut is deep, or longer than about half an inch.
- It’s on the face, a joint, the hand, or the scalp.
- It keeps oozing after ten minutes of firm pressure.
If you’re not sure, text a short description. Dr. Gildin will tell you whether a visit makes sense. This is general information, not a diagnosis.
How much does a visit cost?
Typical fees run from about $400 for basic wound care to $650–$1,200 for a sutured repair. Tissue adhesive and scalp staples are about $500 each. A reservation and evaluation fee, typically $100, is collected once your visit is accepted. Your final fee depends on the injury, location, and time of day, and is confirmed with you before treatment. See Pricing.
Do you accept insurance?
No. I’ll Have You In Stitches is a direct-pay medical service, and insurance is not billed. You receive an itemized statement after your visit. Whether your plan reimburses any part of it is between you and your insurer.
What areas do you serve?
Bergen County, New Jersey, including Teaneck, Bergenfield, Englewood, Tenafly, New Milford, Fair Lawn, and Paramus. Other Northern New Jersey locations may be possible on request. Text to ask.
How quickly can you arrive?
It depends on Dr. Gildin’s availability, your location, and the time of day. We can’t promise a specific response or arrival time. When you text, you’ll hear whether a visit is possible and roughly when. If a wound can’t wait, go to the nearest emergency department.
What happens if I need an emergency department?
Some injuries need a hospital. Examples include bleeding that won’t stop with pressure, very deep or heavily contaminated wounds, wounds with numbness or loss of movement, many animal or human bites, and any injury with a head strike, fainting, or other trauma. If Dr. Gildin thinks you need emergency care, during screening or at the visit, he’ll tell you directly and help you understand why.
This service is not a substitute for emergency medical care. For severe bleeding, major trauma, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, or other potentially life-threatening emergencies, call 911 or seek emergency department care immediately.
Do you offer suture removal?
Yes. Suture and staple removal is available when medically appropriate, along with a check of how the wound is healing.
Can I send a photograph of the wound?
Yes, if Dr. Gildin asks for one. He’ll tell you the secure way to send it. Please don’t email photos, and don’t send them anywhere on this website. The site doesn’t collect any medical information.
What payment methods do you accept?
Zelle (preferred), Venmo, and credit or debit cards through Square. Payment instructions are sent after the doctor accepts your visit, and you receive an itemized invoice for the exact amount after your visit. Any card-processing surcharge is disclosed before you pay. See Payment.
